Jakarta, 23 February 2023 (TDI): Chinese Foreign Minister, Qin Gang visited Indonesia and met with President Joko Widodo, where they pledged to work together in safeguarding regional Stability and peace.

During the meeting, the two sides reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining regional stability and peace. The meeting showcased both sides’ commitment to safeguarding their region and practicing multilateralism.

Both sides demonstrated a strong desire for cooperation and mutual benefit, which will undoubtedly benefit both nations and the wider region.

President Widodo on his part asked for the implementation of agreements made during the Bali meeting and other high-level exchanges.

The practical cooperation between Indonesia and China in recent years was also acknowledged, with bilateral trade and substantive investment growing. Also, China has been becoming Indonesia’s second-largest foreign investor.

He also emphasized the need for expediting joint projects, such as the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway, North Kalimantan Industrial Park, and new capital construction.

He suggested looking for more opportunities for cooperation in industrial chains and new energy to strengthen the partnership between the two nations further.

President Widodo expressed his desire to work with China to maintain peace and promote economic recovery after the COVID-19 pandemic.

While Foreign Minister Qin pledged to increase imports of bulk commodities and high-quality agricultural and fishery products from Indonesia while encouraging Chinese enterprises to contribute to Indonesia’s major infrastructure projects.

It is pertinent to note that this deepening economic partnership highlights the strong ties between China & Indonesia. Also, China will continue to support the centrality of ASEAN & address the Myanmar issue peacefully, in line with the established “ASEAN way.”

Furthermore, Foreign Minister Qin reiterated China’s support for Indonesia as the ASEAN rotating chair and its efforts to lead and promote the construction of the ASEAN Community with a shared future.
