Malé, 2 August 2022 (TDI): The United Kingdom’s Visa Application Center is now open at the Maldivian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and has started accepting applications for visas from 1 August 2022.

As per the Maldivian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, UK Visa Center requires all applicants to give biometric enrolments and documents for visa processing.
The Ministry has advised applicants to use the UK government’s website to begin the application process. The Government of the United Kingdom (UK) has established the Visa Application Center in the Maldives at the request of the Maldivian Government.
Furthermore, the main aim of this Visa Application Center is to ease the process for those applying for UK visas. The Visa Application Centre will especially benefit the students applying for visas for the purposes of higher education.
These temporary UK Visa Application Centers are hosted by the Maldivian Foreign Ministry annually. Maldivian Ministry of Foreign Affairs also expressed its gratefulness to UK government on behalf Government of Maldives.
Maldives-UK Relations
Ever since its independence from the British Empire in 1965, both Maldives and United Kingdom have enjoyed close, friendly, and mutually beneficial relations.
Maldives and United Kingdom have a long history of close relations. On 26 July 2022, both countries celebrated the 57th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.
Almost 100,000 Britons choose to travel to the Maldives each year in order to experience the countries’ natural beauty and luxury resorts. Additionally, in recent years a number of British teachers have volunteered in various schools throughout Maldives.
Britain is also an important market for Maldivian canned a fresh fish products. In 2011, 7% of total exports from Maldives, with a cumulative value of US$9.4 million, were destined for Britain.
In October 2019, Caron Röhsler, UK’s first resident High Commissioner to the Maldives, presented her letter of credence to Maldivian President Solih.
