The DPM/FM Dar appreciated this gesture and UK’s understanding of the needs of Pakistani people at a time when a climate and agricultural emergency has been declared in the country.
Floods have claimed 928 lives in the country with millions displaced, trying to take refuge in low risk areas. 60% of rice crops have also been destroyed completely, as reported earlier by Pakistan Business Forum, while estimates suggest that the country will be forced to import five million tons of wheat.
A latest statement from the Rice Exporters Association of Pakistan (REAP), however. rejects the claims of 60% harvest lost. REPA’s Chief said that damage due to floods is only 10% and the country looks to export eight million tons this year.
The last time Pakistan experienced flash floods was in 2022. Areas of Balochistan, Kyber Pakhtunkhwa, and South Punjab were worst hit, including some regions in Sindh too.
