Washington (TDI): President Donald Trump is scheduled to lead a high-profile delegation of American business leaders for a pivotal summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing, on 14-15 May 2026.
The visit originally arranged for March but postponed due to the Iran conflict is framed as a critical opportunity to stabilize the world’s two largest economies.
President Trump said, in a Truth Social post, that the upcoming talks would be a “monumental event,” highlighting his goal of securing a “great deal” that addresses trade imbalances and restores market access for American technology.
The delegation reportedly includes prominent figures of American industry, with Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and Apple CEO Tim Cook expected to attend alongside top executives from Boeing and ExxonMobil.
The participation of Jensen Huang is particularly significant as Nvidia has stressed its interest in re-entering the Chinese AI chip market following strict export prohibitions.

Investor confidence enhanced following the invitation, as many anticipate a potential “trade truce” that could allow for limited exports of advanced semiconductor technology under thorough security conditions.
Beyond technology, the summit aims to address long-standing trade disputes and secure large-scale purchase agreements for American goods.
Boeing is expected to seek major deals for its commercial aircraft which would mark a significant milestone for the manufacturer in the Chinese market.
The Trump administration has further stressed the importance of Chinese cooperation in reopening the Strait of Hormuz, where ongoing regional instability has disrupted global oil flows. Trump has urged Beijing to utilize its diplomatic leverage to support a ceasefire and ensure energy security.

As groundwork for the upcoming summit, a cross-party US congressional delegation, led by Senator Steve Daines, met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Beijing, on Thursday.
Senator Daines emphasized the need for stability and mutual respect, stressing that the objective is to “de-escalate, not decouple.”
Yi added the baseline of stability is the leadership of both presidents during critical moments and highlighting that both sides have managed to maintain professional engagement despite recent disruptions.
