Seoul (TDI): South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol issued a public apology on Saturday for his controversial martial law declaration, assuring citizens that such measures will not be repeated.

In a televised address, Yoon pledged to take full legal and political responsibility, leaving the decision about his term to the ruling party.

The fallout from Tuesday’s emergency martial law order, which was lifted early Wednesday, has triggered intense criticism, including calls for his resignation.

The leader of the ruling People Power Party described Yoon’s early departure as “inevitable.”

Meanwhile, the opposition Democratic Party (DP) termed the apology insufficient.

“There is no solution other than the president’s immediate resignation or impeachment,” said DP leader Lee Jae-myung during a press conference.

A motion to impeach Yoon has already been submitted by opposition parties and is scheduled for a vote in the National Assembly on Saturday evening.
