Dakar, 8 December 2021 (TDI): South African President, Cyril Ramaphosa paid an official visit to Senegal. Senegal Minister of Economy, Planning, and International Cooperation, Amadou Hott received the South African guest at Leopold Sedar Senghor International Airport in Dakar, Senegal.
South African President attended the Dakar International Forum on Peace and Security. Likewise, he also met with Senegal President Macky Sall.
Moreover, Minister of Justice and Correctional Services, Ronald Lamola; Minister of Trade, Industry, and Competition, Ebrahim Patel; Minister of Transport, Fikile Mbalula; and Deputy Minister of State Security, Zizi Kodwa also accompany the South African President on the visit.
Meeting between President of South African and Senegal
South African and Senegal Presidents held a meeting at the Presidential Palace in Dakar. Both sides discussed bilateral and multilateral issues between the two countries. Likewise, they also talked about economic, regional, and continental issues between Senegal and South Africa.
President Ramaphosa emphasized that both countries share a common commitment to solidarity, mutual respect, and a common vision of a Better Africa and a Better World.
Also, President Ramaphosa asked Senegal’s support at World Trade Organization for a waiver over COVID 19 vaccines. It will ensure equitable access to COVID 19 vaccines for all countries.
Further, both discussed the issue of the Sahel region and argued that all parties should follow political solutions through peaceful dialogue.
Moreover, President Macky Sall honored the South African President with the National Order of the Lion – Grand Cross. It is the highest order of Senegal and is given for distinguished contributions.
Agreement and Memorandums of Understandings
During the visit, both sides signed various agreements and MOUs. Likewise, they signed Agreement on a Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation. It emphasizes the importance of growing political, economic, and social ties between Senegal and South Africa.
Besides, these agreements also include agreements on Technical and Economic Cooperation in the Field of Fisheries and Aquaculture and MOU on Political and Diplomatic Consultations. These agreements will enhance bilateral cooperation between Senegal and South Africa.
South African President: At Dakar International Forum on Peace and Security
Moreover, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa also attended the Dakar International Forum on Peace and Security. While speaking at the event, President talked about the COVID 19 pandemic and the need to end the apartheid of vaccines.
President Ramaphosa also called for an end of the travel ban on the South African region. These bans will impact the economy and tourism industry.
