Dakar, 7 December 2021 (TDI): Senegal organizes the 7th edition of the International Forum on Peace and Security in Africa. The event’s theme is “The challenges of stability and emergence in Africa in a post-COVID-19 world”. The conference is organized under the patronage of Senegal’s President Macky Sall.

Many International Organizations officials and State representatives from Africa participated in the Conference. Head of State of Senegal, Niger, and  South Africa joined the Conference. Furthermore, representatives of African countries, the African Union, the European Union, the International Committee of the Red Cross, Youth Connect Africa Hub joined the Conference. Regional Director UN Women West and Central Africa Oulimata Sarr also attended the event.

Several workshops are arranged in the Session. The focus of these workshops is COVID 19, Climate Change, collective management, security & development, cyber security, violent extremism, maritime surveillance, cyber security, and sustainable peace.

Remarks of Representatives 

Chairman of the African Union Commission Moussa Faki Mahamat spoke at the forum. He emphasized that the security of the African Continent can only ensure Africa. Likewise, he said, “In terms of security, the hour is serious in Africa. There is only Africa to save Africa. But Africa, in this fight for security, of course, needs its partners”.

Moreover, President of the European Council Charles Michel also joined the Forum in Dakar. As well, while speaking at the forum, he emphasized that the European Union and Africa need to change the partnership paradigm. Likewise, he added that the EU has started vaccines capacity in Senegal and South Africa with the help of the Pasteur Institute. It will help Africa to address the new variant, Omicron.

Moreover, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa also attended the event. While speaking at the event, President talked about COVID 19 pandemic.

He asserted that the world needs the end of the apartheid of vaccines. President argues the end of the travel ban in the Southern Africa region as it will devastate the economy and tourism industry. Further, he called for WTO waiver over COVID 19 vaccines so that everyone could ensure vaccine availability.

Dakar International Forum: An Overview

Dakar International Forum on Peace and Security is the International Forum of Africa Continent. It is organized annually, and six editions have been conducted since 2014. African Leaders and international actors involved in Africa’s development participate in the event. Likewise, it aims to focus on peace, stability, security, and challenges to the development of the African continent.
