Moroccan Foreign Minister attends Visegrad Group meeting

Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Morocco, the Republic of Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, and the Slovak Republic at the meeting of Visegrad Group in Budapest, Poland.

Budapest, 8 December 2021 (TDI): Moroccan Foreign Minister, Nasser Bourita attended the Visegrad Group+Morocco meeting in Budapest, Hungary. It is the first-ever meeting of the group with Morocco. Hungary holds the Presidency of the group for 2021-2022.

The agenda of the V4+ Morocco meeting is migration, regional affairs of the Middle East and North Africa, security issues, and the European Union-Morocco relations.

Likewise, after the meeting, a joint press conference was held of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Morocco, the Republic of Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, and the Slovak Republic.

Outcomes of the Meeting

The V4+Morocco Ministerial meeting discussed ways to further enhance cooperation in various sectors and build a multifaceted partnership. Visegrad group praised Morocco’s efforts in the fight against illegal migration and terrorism.

Moreover, the Visegrad Group argued for the European Union to provide support in border management. It will strengthen Morocco’s capacities to tackle illegal migration.

Group also declares that Morocco is the strategic partner of the European Union. Further, the Visegrad group lauded the role of Morocco for regional stability. Visegrad Group aimed to support and defend Morocco’s interest within the European Union.

The Group will support the EU Council’s appeal against the European Court verdict against Morocco that canceled fisheries and agricultural agreements with Morocco.

The Visegrad Group: An Overview

The Visegrad Group (V4) is a group of four Central European countries. These include Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, and the Czech Republic. These countries share common intellectual values and cultures.

Moreover, the group aims to strengthen stability and enhance cooperation in Central Europe. Besides, the Visegrad group aims to maximize cooperation with all countries, especially neighboring countries. It focuses on the democratic development of Europe.

Likewise, it contributes to European Security architecture and the Visegrad members enhance the imparting of values in different sectors. These include science, education, cultures, and the exchange of information.
