Russia’s Su-57 Showcases in China, Lands Export Deal

Zhuhai (TDI): Russia’s advanced Su-57 stealth fighter jet made its debut at Airshow China 2024 in Zhuhai, South China’s Guangdong Province, drawing widespread attention and marking its first international showcase at the biennial event.

Known as one of the few fifth-generation stealth fighters globally, the Su-57 demonstrated impressive flight capabilities, capturing interest from military delegates, media, and spectators.

As part of a broader promotional effort for the export version, Su-57E, Rosoboronexport—Russia’s state intermediary for military exports—confirmed signing its first contracts for foreign deliveries at the event.

“We are currently holding technical consultations with several of Russia’s strategic partners, discussing both completed product deliveries and opportunities for joint development and production,” Rosoboronexport Director General Alexander Mikheev said.

Two Su-57 jets were showcased at the airshow, one performing dynamic aerial displays while the other was on static display for close-up viewing by delegates and the public.

The Su-57 and its celebrated pilot, Sergey Bogdan, garnered a notable fan base, both onsite and on Chinese social media, according to Global Times.

“The Su-57E represents advanced technical capabilities, meeting all fifth-generation fighter criteria, such as supersonic cruising, low radar, and infrared signatures,” said “Mike,” a Rosoboronexport staff member.

Mikheev also highlighted the Su-57’s combat experience against Western air defense systems like PATRIOT, NASAMS, and IRIS as a key competitive edge.

With Airshow China regarded as one of the world’s premier aerospace exhibitions, Mikheev noted that it holds symbolic significance for Rosoboronexport, which first showcased its products in Zhuhai after its establishment in 2000.

“It’s a landmark event, and we are pleased to debut the Su-57E here for Russia’s key partners,” he said, adding that Rosoboronexport also displayed the latest in guided missiles and air bombs for fifth-generation aircraft and attack helicopters.
