Qatar-France strengthen strategic partnership

Doha, 29 February 2024(TDI): Qatar-France strengthened their strategic partnership during a recent visit by the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, to France at the request of French President Emmanuel Macron.

Reportedly, the Amir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, traveled to France on February 27 and 28, 2024.

During his recent visit, Qatar and the France emphasized the strength and depth of their strategic ties.

Enhanced strategic ties

Also, they appreciate the planned Third France-Qatar Strategic Dialogue, which will take place in Paris.

Moreover, both states expressed their opposition to the genocide and famine affecting Palestinians in the Gaza region.

Following the joint dialogue, both sides highlighted their disagreement with regard to an assault against Rafah.

Furthermore, they urged for the reopening of all crossings of aid delivery, including those in the north of the Gaza Strip, to allow humanitarian groups to continue their work.

Qatar-France Joint Humanitarian Initiatives

According to the reports, Qatar and France both committed a joint $200 million initiative to support Palestinian citizens.

The Emir of Qatar and the French President also held discussions on international and regional situations.

They shared deep concerns about risks to maritime security and navigational freedom in the Red Sea.

In addition, Qatar-France both emphasized the necessity of addressing these concerns according to UNSCR 2722 (2024) to avoid regional conflicts and preserve maritime security.

Additionally, the heads of state emphasized the urgent need for an immediate and long-term ceasefire. This would allow essential assistance into Gaza while ensuring civilian security.

Security Cooperation for Paris Olympics

During the Emir of Qatar’s visit to the friendly French Republic, several agreements were signed.

These agreements aims to strengthen security cooperation between the two countries.

As a result, the Qatar-France established an administrative agreement on security cooperation.

This agreement aims to ensure the safety of the Summer Olympic Games (Paris 2024), scheduled from July 26 to August 11, 2024.

The agreement was signed by Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Minister of Interior and Commander of the Internal Security Force.

Reportedly, he was joined by Gerald Darmanin, Minister of Interior and Overseas Territories of France.

According to reports, Qatari security forces will provide security coverage for the Paris Olympics. This coverage includes foot patrols, mounted patrols, drones, and explosive ordnance disposal.

They will deploy cyber security experts, explosive detection dogs, counter-terrorism units, and riot control teams.
