Astana, 18 April 2023 (TDI): The President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, met with Miroslav Jenča, the United Nations Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs, to discuss Kazakhstan-UN cooperation in various domains, including regional diplomacy, sustainable development, and political reforms.
The President emphasized the significance of Jenča’s visit in expanding the multifaceted cooperation between Kazakhstan and the United Nations. He extended warm greetings to the UN Secretary-General António Guterres.
During the meeting, the two leaders discussed the current elements of functional cooperation between Kazakhstan and the United Nations, particularly within the Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia framework.
Jenča complimented Kazakhstan’s cooperation with the United Nations and the country’s ongoing political reforms. Additionally, the two discussed contemporary national and international issues.

The President stressed that the visit of the Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs was crucial to strengthening the partnership between Kazakhstan and the United Nations, particularly in sustainable development and preventive diplomacy.
The President stated that Kazakhstan is fully committed to implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The country has taken significant steps toward achieving them.
He also emphasized the importance of regional cooperation in achieving the SDGs.
He also acknowledged the UN’s contributions to Kazakhstan’s health care, education, and environmental safeguarding development.
The establishment of the UN Centre for Sustainable Development Goals (SGDs) for Central Asia and Afghanistan in Almaty was also discussed, along with its potential prospects.
Tokayev noted that establishing the UN Centre for SGDs for Central Asia and Afghanistan in Almaty would be a critical platform for implementing sustainable development initiatives in the region.
He also complimented the efforts of the United Nations in promoting peace, security, and stability in the region.
He stated that Kazakhstan strongly supports the United Nations and its efforts toward achieving global peace and security.
