Amman (TDI): Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi have discussed diplomatic efforts to halt hostilities between the United States and Iran and reach a sustainable ceasefire, Jordan’s Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday.
During a telephone conversation late Tuesday, the two ministers discussed ways to prevent further escalation and work towards a comprehensive resolution of the crisis, including an agreement that would establish a lasting ceasefire between Washington and Tehran.
According to the Jordanian Foreign Ministry, Safadi emphasized the importance of coordinated regional and international efforts to restore calm and achieve lasting security and stability.
He stressed that any settlement should be based on principles that safeguard the security and stability of all countries in the region.
Safadi also underscored the need to respect international law, uphold good-neighbourly relations and refrain from interfering in the internal affairs of states. He further highlighted the importance of ensuring freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital route for global energy shipments.
The conversation reflects continuing diplomatic efforts to contain the conflict and establish conditions for a more durable regional settlement.

Separately, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei criticized US President Donald Trump’s reported remarks about the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), accusing Washington of undermining diplomatic commitments.
In a post on X on Wednesday, Baghaei said Trump’s reported dismissal of the MoU as a waste of time demonstrated what Tehran considers a lack of sincerity in US diplomatic engagement.
“Washington’s contempt for diplomacy is once again laid bare,” Baghaei wrote. He accused the United States of repeatedly abandoning commitments when they no longer suited its interests, arguing that international obligations should not be treated as disposable.

Baghaei also criticized European countries and other states supporting Washington, saying they should not shield the United States from accountability for its actions.
“Broken commitments cannot be excused, international law cannot be applied selectively, and no amount of political spin can absolve Washington of accountability,” he said.
The Iranian spokesperson’s comments highlight the deep mistrust between Tehran and Washington as diplomatic efforts continue amid the wider conflict.
