Islamabad (TDI): Pakistan and Azerbaijan have reiterated their commitment to strengthening cooperation in key areas including trade, investment, energy, and people-to-people exchanges.
According to a statement from the PM Office, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a telephone conversation with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on Tuesday, during which both leaders expressed satisfaction over the positive trajectory of bilateral relations.
The two sides described the exchange as warm and cordial, reaffirming their longstanding friendly ties and shared interest in expanding cooperation across multiple sectors.
During the call, Prime Minister Shehbaz extended his best wishes to President Aliyev for the upcoming World Urban Forum in Baku.
He said the event would provide an important platform for advancing global discussions on urban development. The prime minister also noted that due to prior commitments, he would be unable to attend personally, but assured Pakistan would be represented at the forum.

Both leaders also discussed regional developments, with a particular focus on ongoing peace efforts in the Middle East.
President Aliyev appreciated Pakistan’s role in facilitating recent ceasefire-related diplomatic efforts involving Iran and the United States, describing it as evidence of Pakistan’s constructive international standing.

The two leaders agreed to remain in close contact and expressed hope of meeting in person later this year. Prime Minister Sharif also extended an invitation for President Aliyev to visit Pakistan at a mutually convenient time.
