Pakistan, Azerbaijan Discuss Maritime Security and Defense Cooperation

Islamabad (TDI): Pakistan and Azerbaijan reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral naval ties and enhancing cooperation in maritime security and defense during a high-level meeting at the Naval Headquarters, on Monday.

Commander of Azerbaijan Naval Forces (ANF), Rear Admiral Shahin Mammadov, called on Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Admiral Naveed Ashraf, as part of his official visit to Pakistan. The visit underscored the growing defense collaboration between the two brotherly countries, particularly in the naval domain.

Upon his arrival at Naval Headquarters, Rear Admiral Shahin Mammadov was warmly received by Admiral Naveed Ashraf. A smartly turned-out contingent of the Pakistan Navy presented a Guard of Honor in recognition of the visiting dignitary.

The Commander ANF also laid a floral wreath at the Shuhada’s Monument to pay tribute to the martyrs and was subsequently introduced to the Principal Staff Officers at Naval Headquarters.

During the ensuing meeting, both naval chiefs held detailed discussions on matters of mutual interest, with a particular focus on the regional maritime security environment.

The talks also covered prospects for expanding cooperation in areas such as training, defense collaboration, and professional exchanges between the two navies.

The leaders reiterated their resolve to further strengthen and diversify the scope of the existing bilateral defense relationship.

Emphasis was placed on enhancing naval cooperation to address emerging maritime challenges and contribute to regional stability. In this context, avenues for increased interaction and collaboration between the Pakistan Navy and the Azerbaijan Naval Forces were explored.

As part of the visit, Rear Admiral Shahin Mammadov was also given a comprehensive briefing on Pakistan Navy’s ongoing projects and initiatives. The briefing highlighted the Navy’s efforts toward modernization, capacity building, and its role in ensuring maritime security in the region.

Pakistan and Azerbaijan enjoy longstanding and cordial relations, characterized by mutual trust and close cooperation in various fields, including defense.

Naval cooperation has been an important component of this relationship, with both countries sharing common perspectives on regional security and stability.

The visit of the Commander of Azerbaijan Naval Forces is expected to further enhance bilateral collaboration between Pakistan and Azerbaijan, particularly between their respective navies.
