Mexico Deputy Minister meets Kazakhstan representative

Mexico City, 22 July 2022 (TDI): The Chargé d’Affaires of Kazakhstan, Olzhas Issabekov met with the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mexico, Carmen Moreno Toscano.

Proceedings of the Meeting

During the meeting, both sides discussed the most pressing cooperation issues between the two countries.

Mexican side assured that it would expedite the consideration of draft agreements in law enforcement.

In addition, they agreed to intensify cooperation to strengthen other favorable conditions for mutual interest. This cooperation will be beneficial for the travel of citizens of Kazakhstan and Mexico to the respective states.

Carmen Moreno Toscano informed Olzhas Issabekov about the Mexican government’s efforts to open its embassy in Kazakhstan.

In the end, Olzhas Issabekov thanked Deputy Minister for active participation in the Cultural and Educational Presentation of Kazakhstan in Mexico.

Mexico-Kazakhstan relations

Kazakhstan and Mexico formally established diplomatic relations on 14 January 1992, after the dissolution of the Soviet Union. The countries are members of the United Nations and the World Trade Organization.

Mexico is one of the largest trading partners of Kazakhstan in Latin America. According to Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Mexico is $121.4 million. Out of this Kazakhstan’s export make only $171 thousand of the amount.

Kazakhstan mainly imports metal pipes, electric motors and generators, medical devices, air and vacuum pumps, cars, molybdenum, and lead ores.

Both nations have signed a few bilateral agreements like the Agreement to Abolish Visa Requirements for Official, Service, and Diplomatic Passport.

Other agreements include an MOU on the Establishment of a Consultation Mechanism in the areas of Mutual Interests between both Foreign Ministries of the countries and an MOU in Cooperation between the Kazakh Academy of Public Administration and the Mexican Matias Romero Institute.

The officials commemorated the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations on January 14, 2022. Both states have cordial diplomatic relations with each other and aim to advance their relations through diplomatic engagements.
