Islamabad (TDI): Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Monday underscored the importance of women’s economic empowerment, saying the provincial government’s “Apna Rozgar Program” aims to help women achieve financial independence and play a stronger role in society.
Addressing the 9th OIC Ministerial Conference on Women in Islamabad, Maryam welcomed delegates from member states and described Pakistan as a peaceful and hospitable country, saying it was an honour to speak before the international gathering.
She said Islam provides clear guidance on protecting and promoting women’s rights, adding that empowering women is essential for sustainable social and economic development.
Highlighting the Punjab government’s initiatives, the chief minister said the “Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar” housing scheme was providing relief to deserving families, while the “Apna Rozgar Program” was designed to create opportunities for women to become economically self-reliant.

Maryam also stressed the importance of digital inclusion, saying the provincial government was equipping women with information technology skills to enable them to compete in the modern economy and benefit from emerging opportunities.

Paying tribute to former prime minister Benazir Bhutto, she described her as the Muslim world’s first female prime minister and acknowledged her enduring contributions to Pakistan and the advancement of women’s leadership.
