Kazakhstan, PTC Holding to Develop Terminal in Georgia

Baku (TDI): Kazakhstan’s national railway company, NC KTZ JSC, and PTC Holding have signed a Memorandum of Intent to jointly develop terminal infrastructure in Georgia. The agreement was finalized during a meeting of the working group focused on the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR).

Under this initiative, a multimodal container terminal will be built in the Georgian port city of Poti. The facility will have an annual capacity of over 80,000 TEU, enhancing freight handling efficiency along the TITR. The total investment in the project is estimated at $30 million.

Boosting Cargo Transport Efficiency

The new terminal is expected to improve cargo handling processes and expand freight capacity on the TITR, which connects China to Europe through Central Asia and the Caspian Sea. By integrating this facility into the existing transport network, the project aims to streamline logistics operations and support growing trade demand in the region.

The terminal will serve as a key hub for both packaged and containerized cargo, optimizing transit times and reducing bottlenecks. The expansion of logistics infrastructure in Poti will help accommodate increasing trade volumes while ensuring the smooth flow of goods between Asia and Europe.

Investment and Logistics Development

Attracting investment remains a priority for the TITR, as efforts continue to expand its operational capacity. The Poti terminal is part of broader plans to modernize the transport corridor, strengthening its role in international logistics. By optimizing logistics processes, the project is expected to enhance the region’s competitiveness in global cargo transportation.

The collaboration between Kazakhstan and PTC Holding reflects a shared commitment to developing key infrastructure that supports cross-border trade. As more investments flow into transport and logistics projects, the TITR is positioned to become a vital alternative for freight movement between China and Europe.

Strategic Importance for Regional Trade

Kazakhstan continues to play a central role in advancing regional trade infrastructure. The development of the terminal in Georgia will enhance connectivity and further integrate the TITR into global supply chains. The initiative aligns with efforts to strengthen Kazakhstan’s transit potential and improve logistical links with key international markets.

The signing of the Memorandum marks a step forward in expanding transport and logistics cooperation. With a focus on efficiency and capacity-building, the project aims to provide businesses with improved trade routes and cost-effective freight solutions.

As logistics demand grows, investment in transport corridors like the TITR will be crucial in meeting global supply chain requirements. The Poti terminal project underscores the commitment of both Kazakhstan and its partners to developing modern, high-capacity transport infrastructure that supports international trade.
