Iraq 29 August 2024 (TDI): An Anti-Corruption Court in Iraq has issued arrests warrants for the two prime accused involved in Iraq’s largest heist the Century’ in which they allegedly stolen over 3.7 trillion dinars ($2.53 billion) from the General Commission for Taxes.
The court issued arrest warrants for the two suspects namely Nour Zuhair and Haitham Al-Jubouri who are involved in the largest theft.
The Federal Commission of Integrity (COI) chief, Haider Hanoun, said htat Zuhair will be prosecuted soon along with 30 other suspects found involved in the same case.
Hanoun further said that the Kuwaiti authorities in August have claimed to have arrested two persons with dual Kwaiti and Iraqi national on charge of stealing $124 million in the “theft of the century.
Iraqi courts issued arrest warrants in October 2022 for senior officials in the Ministry of Finance with respect to this serious crime andmisuse of public fund.
COI chief said that Interpol will be requested to issue Red Notices of ex-officials involved in the largest theft. He said that the suspects will be extradited from the countries including the UAE, Turkey, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia, United States and the United Kingdom.
All the suspects involved in the large theft received over $77 million, he said.
Iraq Prime Minister Al-Sudani said that efforts would be made eradicate corruption in the country. All measures will be taken to save Iraqi money, he said.

The Kacher Investigation Court decided in August 2022 not to pay the checks issued by the General Tax Council.
