IFAD supports agricultural economy in Kenya

Nairobi, 22 October 2021 (TDI): IFAD East Africa shared a tweet that to support Kenya’s agriculture economy today. In this tweet, they have shared an article that explains the need for agricultural economic development and its potential gains. IFAD urged the world to support them in this situation.

During World Food Day, they have shared the challenges faced by the people in Kenya. The country is presently fighting drought in 23 counties in dry and semi-dry lands because of climate changes. Around, 2.4 million are at risk of food scarcity because of these climates changes. Moreover, the situation is worsening over time. Several other challenges, like desert locust invasions and the Covid-19 pandemic, have left thousands of families vulnerable. Therefore, it is necessary to discuss issues related to the food system.

IFAD added that they are supporting affected communities by providing them with immediate help. IFAD is also concentrating on developing resilience for long-lasting development.

According to FAO, this pandemic led to an economic recession that could increase up to 132M or 690M families who already experience hunger. According to the World Food Programme, this natural disastrous situation can increase by 20% by 2050.
