Pakistan's HC Rabia Shafiq Engages with Students at National University of Singapore

Singapore (TDI): Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Singapore, Rabia Shafiq, underscored the country’s growing geostrategic importance and diplomatic outreach during an interactive session with students at the National University of Singapore (NUS) College.

Addressing the gathering, Shafiq reflected on over six decades of Pakistan–Singapore relations, emphasizing the steady development of political, economic, and institutional ties between the two countries.

She noted that while the partnership has strengthened over time, significant untapped potential remains for deeper collaboration across multiple sectors.

A key focus of her remarks was Pakistan’s geostrategic positioning, which she described as central to its engagement with regional and global partners.

Highlighting Islamabad’s evolving foreign policy outlook, the High Commissioner also referenced Pakistan’s role in recent mediation efforts, including its constructive engagement in international diplomatic dialogues.

The session provided a broad overview of Pakistan’s external relations, economic outlook, and cultural landscape. Shafiq pointed to opportunities for enhanced cooperation in trade, investment, and emerging sectors, particularly as Pakistan continues to position itself as a bridge between regions.

She also acknowledged the contributions of the Pakistani diaspora in Singapore, describing it as an important link in strengthening bilateral ties.

We had a detailed chatter with High Commissioner Rabia Shafiq in our signature “Conversation With a Diplomat” series, just recently. Find it here.

An interactive question-and-answer segment allowed students to engage directly with the High Commissioner on a range of topics, including Pakistan’s economy, tourism potential, media environment, and cultural diversity. The discussion reflected growing academic and youth interest in Pakistan’s regional role and development trajectory.

The event was facilitated by NUS College, with participation from faculty members including Dr. Mustafa Izzuddin. The High Commission expressed appreciation for the platform, describing it as a meaningful opportunity to promote dialogue and mutual understanding between Pakistan and Singapore.

The engagement forms part of broader diplomatic efforts by Pakistan’s mission in Singapore to deepen outreach with academic institutions and thought leaders.
