Tehran, 5 July 2022: Iranian Foreign Minister, Hossein Amir Abdollahian, met with the visiting Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, and told his Azeri counterpart that Iran offers support for solving the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict peacefully.

Amir Abdollahian expressed satisfaction that the two countries have passed the mutual misunderstandings phase and the beginning of a new phase in relations.
He also described the meetings of the Iranian and Azeri Presidents in the last ten months.
He said the meetings between the officials of the two countries and the signing of numerous cooperation documents in various fields as indications of the depth and scope of the relations between the countries and are in line with the interests of the two brotherly nations.
Iran’s top diplomat referred to various economic capacities and the determination of the Presidents of the two countries to expand mutual cooperation. He emphasized promoting relations and expressed hope that great steps will be taken to deepen relations during the visit of the President of Azerbaijan to Tehran in near future.
Amir Abdollahian termed transport and energy as important areas of cooperation between the two countries. He also underlined the importance of finalizing joint projects for dam construction and operation of the power plant on the Aras river. He also stressed on increasing cooperation in common areas in the Caspian Sea.
Iranian Foreign Minister further stressed the necessity of reviving tourism cooperation in the post-COVID-19 era. He also called for facilitating the relations between Iranian and Azeri citizens.
Nagorno-Karabakh conflict
Abdollahian expressed his satisfaction with the process of resolving the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. He emphasized Iran’s support for the peaceful resolution of the remaining issues through dialogue and based on the principles of international law, including respect for sovereignty and preserving the territorial integrity of countries.
He offered Iran’s readiness to help in this regard, especially to solve humanitarian issues. Amir Abdollahian told his Azeri counterpart that after the Karabakh war, the ground for regional cooperation has been paved. He also expressed Iran’s readiness to host the upcoming meeting of 3+3 regional talks.
Meanwhile, Azeri Foreign Minister Bayramov informed about the process of expanding relations. Bayramov also informed about Azerbaijan’s determination in finalizing and exploiting joint projects and designing and implementing new projects.
Stressing the importance of the North-South corridor for Azerbaijan, he announced Baku’s determination to increase the capacity of this corridor and finalize rail and road projects.
Participation of Iranian companies in the reconstructions and other development projects in Azerbaijan, and connecting Azerbaijan to the Republic of Nakhchivan through Iran were among the points of discussion.
