Islamabad (TDI): The OIC Ministerial Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation (COMSTECH) and Prince of Songkla University (PSU), Thailand, formalized a new partnership on Tuesday.
They signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening cooperation in higher education, science, technology, and innovation.
The signing ceremony brought together senior leadership, diplomats, and academic representatives from both sides, reflecting a shared commitment to advancing international academic collaboration.
The event began with an introduction of participants, followed by opening remarks from Associate Professor Dr. Thakerng Wongsirichot, Vice President for Academic and International Affairs at PSU.
In his address, Dr. Wongsirichot underscored the importance of cross-border academic partnerships in tackling global challenges.
He emphasized that collaboration in education and research is essential for developing innovative solutions to issues ranging from sustainability to technological advancement.

Professor Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary, Coordinator General of COMSTECH, reiterated the organization’s dedication to fostering scientific cooperation among member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
He highlighted COMSTECH’s ongoing efforts to expand its global academic network by partnering with leading institutions worldwide.
The ceremony was attended by distinguished guests, including Rongvudhi Virabutr, Ambassador of Thailand to Pakistan. In his remarks, the ambassador welcomed the growing academic ties between Pakistan and Thailand and expressed optimism that the agreement would create new opportunities for collaboration.
He noted that such partnerships would enhance research mobility, strengthen institutional linkages, and contribute to mutual development.
Under the terms of the MoU, both institutions will collaborate on a range of initiatives, including joint research projects, faculty and student exchange programs, specialized training, and innovation-driven partnerships.
The agreement also places a particular focus on halal science cooperation and broader academic engagement across COMSTECH’s network in the Muslim world.
The collaboration is expected to promote scientific advancement, elevate academic standards, and support sustainable development across participating regions.
