Beijing/Sichuan, September 05 (TDI): State Power Investment Corporation has installed 10.34 million kilowatts, generating 7.2 million kilowatts purely clean energy, power plants in 38 BRI countries including Pakistan.

The good news is that SPIC has now expanded its operation to 47 countries globally with intention to do more for clean energy and also come up with more investment for development of energy sector, power generation capacity in the BRI countries.

In this regard a special presentation was given to the visiting Pakistani delegation consisting repetitive of media and think tanks.

“For solar energy, we have the Zhengdou Photovoltaic Demonstration Base, with an average elevation of 4,000 meters. It is the world’s first ultra-high-altitude photovoltaic demonstration base and one of the projects for the joint carbon peaking and neutrality actions in the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle”, the presenter, an expert from the Chinese corporation, proudly told the delegation while briefing them on as what SPIC is doing in China and globally.

For wind energy, China have developed the Maguoliangzi and Beishan Wind Power Projects. Located in Xide County, Liangshan Prefecture, with a total installed capacity of 130,000 kilowatts, they are among the country’s first “desert, Gobi, barren land” large-scale bases and typical ultra-high-altitude mountain wind power projects.

Above the snow-capped mountains, SPIC harnesses photovoltaic and wind power to continuously send green electricity to Chengdu’s load center.

Below the snow-capped mountains, it injects more green and low-carbon energy application scenarios into this park city, sowing the seeds of “carbon peaking and neutrality” in this megacity of over 20 million people.

Members of the delegation were briefed as SPIC is sensitive for ecology as well and how it provide cooling and heating system in the area with the possible lowest emission of carbon.

They were also briefed on power system in Sichuan.

The whole process in the locality saves 350,000 tons of standard coal annually, and reduces carbon dioxide emissions by 1.07 million tons, they were told with evidences.

SPIC is committed to building a world-class clean energy enterprise, with clean energy as the main driver of growth. By the end of April 2024, SPIC’s total installed capacity reached 240 million kilowatts, with clean energy accounting for 70.21%.

“We fulfill our corporate mission of creating green value, dedicated to promoting high-standard social responsibility and creating a prosperous, eco-friendly, socially harmonious, and sustainable future,” the official said.

Officials say SPIC projects benefits Pakistan as well

In countries along the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) such as Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Turkey, and Myanmar, SPIC has successively invested in and constructed a series of energy projects, making significant contributions to local energy and electricity supply, economic and social development.

In Pakistan’s Mansehra this week the first unit of the Suki Kinari Hydropower Project was successfully connected to the national grid, marking a significant milestone in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) initiative.

Once fully operational, the 884MW plant will generate approximately 3.21 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, supplying affordable clean energy to over 1 million households.

“Taking overseas project construction as an opportunity, SPIC actively participates in the economic, social, and livelihood development of project locations, actively responds to the BRI, and provides material donations, public facility construction, social skills training, and more to benefit local communities through practical actions,” the official elaborated.
