During the 26th United Nations Conference of Parties (COP26) leaders Summit in Glasgow, U.S. President Joe Biden criticized China and blamed it for walking away from the Climate Change issue. Wang Wenbin responded to American President’s remarks in his regular press conference on 3 November 2021. He said that China has been working to mitigate and address the Climate challenges in the world.
Chinese actions against climate change
The Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson stated that China has been adding 12000 hectares of forest and 90, 000kW installed photovoltaic capacity on average per day. He also emphasized China is also working to build large-scale wind and PV projects of nearly 30 million kW. He underlined Chinese plans by saying that China has been working to mitigate Climate Change, unlike other countries which are just making slogans and not taking actions.
Need of actions instead of empty slogans
Wang Wenbin stated that successful governance depends on actions but not on just speeches. He said that actions speak louder than words thus international community should focus on actions against Climate Change. He also stated that the U.S. and China jointly pushed the world for the Paris Agreement but the U.S. unilateral withdrawal affected the fight against climate change.
US returns to Paris Agreement
In the end, he said that the American return to the Paris Agreement is good news for the international community. He said that the U.S should implement the policies agreed in the Paris Agreement. Being one of the leading states of the world, the U.S. has more responsibilities and it should run from its responsibilities. He urged the United States to adopt policies to achieve the targets of zero emissions.
