China prepares for Green Beijing Olympics

Beijing, 23 December 2021 (TDI): China is doing preparations for a green Beijing Olympics.


Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Zhao Lijian stated that China is doing preparations for hosting the Beijing Winter Olympics. He said that China has made measurements for climate change and is planning to host a green Beijing Olympics. He made these remarks in the Chinese Foreign Ministry Regular press conference on 22 December 2021.

Zhao emphasized that China believes in actions rather than empty slogans. China considered ecological conservation in its preparations for Beijing Olympics. Green Beijing Olympics will emphasize the Chinese seriousness about climate change, he added. All three Winter Olympic villages in Beijing, Yanqing, and Zhangjiakou meet the three-star green building standard. It will be also the first time in the world that the whole Olympic games will be run completely on wind and solar energy. Winter Olympics 2022 will be the first Games to be run entirely on wind and solar energy

He highlighted that in the Beijing Olympics, 12 venues will be powered by green energy. This will be happening first time in the world, he added. He also pointed out that in the outdoors snow-making, water will be stored by different multiple sources. It will be then recycled and conserved with technological support.


Zhao stressed that the waste product in the Beijing Olympics will be disposed of and will be managed under higher authorities. He underscored that the international community is praising the Chinese efforts for the green Beijing Olympics.

Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson said that China is committed to green development. Green Beijing Olympics highlights the Chinese vision of green development in the world. He stated that Beijing Winter Olympic Games will be environmentally friendly.

Christophe Dubi, the Olympic Games executive director appreciated the Chinese planning of the Green Beijing Olympics. He said that he has high hopes for the success of the Beijing Olympics.
