Beijing, 22 December 2021 (TDI): Chinese President Xi Jinping talked with the newly appointed German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on 21 December 2022 on a telephone call.
Xi congratulated Scholz on his appointment as the German Chancellor. He discussed bilateral relations with the new German Chancellor. He stated that China put great importance on its relations with Germany. Chinese cooperation has grown highly in recent years, he added.

Chinese President highlighted that the China-Germany relationship has played a role of bellwether between the cooperation of China and European countries. He said that China hopes that Germany will continue to play a positive role in strengthening China Europe relations. He noted that 2022 marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Chinese diplomatic relations with Germany.
In the last 50 years, China and Germany have strengthened their cooperation and deepened their mutual trust. In the coming 50 years, the countries will work on a common vision to create a global community based on shared values with a shared future.
Xi stressed that the two countries should enhance strategic cooperation in their future relations. He underscored that China and Germany are two important and influential countries in the international system. The strategic cooperation between the two countries will work for the peace and stability of the world.
He stressed that the two countries should enhance their bilateral cooperation. The economies of China and Germany can get huge benefits from each other. He pointed out that China has been the largest trading partner of Germany in the last 5 years. The bilateral trade between the two countries continued to grow despite the challenges posed by the Coronavirus pandemic.
Chinese President talked about creating new channels to enhance bilateral cooperation
Chinese President stressed that the two states should create new channels to enhance cooperation in the fields of trade, energy, and digital economy. He stated that China welcomes the German companies in the huge market of China. He said that China also hopes for the same treatment for the Chinese enterprises in Germany.
Xi highlighted that Germany is an important country for the Chinese project of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). He said that China wants to create connectivity between China and Europe. Therefore Germany is important for the China-Europe Railway Express, he added.
He urged Germany to promote and defend multilateralism in the world. Unilateral actions pose threats to the peace and security of the world. Therefore, the two countries should enhance coordination in international affairs.
Xi stressed that China and Germany should increase anti-pandemic cooperation. He said that the two countries should promote fair distribution of vaccines in the world. They should also work together for the post-pandemic recovery of the world.
The newly appointed German Chancellor Olaf Scholz thanked the Chinese President for sending a congratulatory message on his election. He said that he is ready to carry forward the Germany-China relationship. Germany will continue to strengthen cooperation with China in the spirit of mutual trust and respect.
Scholz stated that Germany will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations by holding ceremonies with China. He said that Germany is looking forward to enhancing cooperation with China in the fields of green energy, digital economy, and services.
