Beijing (TDI): Millions of Chinese at home and abroad celebrated the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China on Wednesday, with scenes of patriotism and pride unfolding from Tian’anmen Square to Hong Kong, Macao, and even aboard the China Space Station.
In Beijing, tens of thousands gathered before dawn at Tian’anmen Square for the national flag-raising ceremony. Visitors from across the country, young and old alike, expressed their excitement at witnessing the moment. For some, such as 80-year-old Tang Yanqin from Harbin, it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience, Global Times reported.
Many waved flags, wore stickers, and sang patriotic songs, while young photographer Zhong Chaoyu from Guangzhou said he wanted to capture the “sacred moment” on camera. Across the crowd, the atmosphere was filled with pride and unity.

High above Earth, astronauts aboard the China Space Station sent their greetings in red uniforms emblazoned with the words “the motherland is the light that illuminates everything.” Veteran taikonaut Chen Dong praised the achievements of China’s space program and extended best wishes for the country’s prosperity.
Celebrations also swept through Hong Kong and Macao. In Hong Kong, officials and community leaders attended a flag-raising ceremony at Golden Bauhinia Square, with helicopters and fireboats joining the festivities over Victoria Harbour.

In Macao, Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng underscored the city’s commitment to contributing to the “One Country, Two Systems” framework as part of the nation’s development.
Meanwhile, China’s Foreign Ministry released a short film titled The Right Path, blending historical images with modern achievements to mark the anniversary and highlight the country’s progress since 1949.
