Beijing/Washington DC, 5 February 2023 (TDI): Director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs of China and Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, Wang Yi talked to the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken.
He talked by phone on the evening of February 3, 2023. The two parties discussed how to approach sporadic individual cases in a cool, businesslike manner.
On his part, Wang Yi emphasized that as a responsible nation, China has always adhered strictly to international law and will not accept any unfounded rumors or hype.
He went on to enunciate that maintaining composure, communicating promptly, avoiding errors in judgment, and managing differences are what both parties should do in the face of unforeseen circumstances.
It is pertinent to note that soon after a purported Chinese surveillance balloon was discovered transiting to sensitive areas in American airspace this week, the United States (US) Secretary of State, Antony Blinken postponed his trip to Beijing.
Pentagon officials revealed on Thursday that they were investigating a rumored Chinese surveillance balloon that had been seen flying over highly sensitive US territory at a high altitude.
Likewise, the Pentagon reported the discovery of a second balloon the following day over Latin America. Reports indicate that a balloon is passing through Latin America.
“As of right now, we believe it to be another Chinese spy balloon. At this time, we have no additional information to share.” Pat Ryder, Spokesman for the Pentagon, issued a statement.
