Beijing, 24 December 2022 (TDI): Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Thursday met with John Lawson Thornton, co-Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Asia Society.
Wang said, “To achieve the stable and sustainable development of China-US relations, the US side should first form the right perception of China”.
Foreign Minister’s Statements
The Foreign Minister added that “China is ready to formulate the right way for the two countries. Both can work together on the principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation”.
Moreover, Wang Yi underlined that “The US side should abandon its unreasonable containment and suppression of China.
Wang said that in the face of recurring regional issues and global challenges, both nations should carry out necessary cooperation.

He further highlighted that this is the responsibility of major countries, along with the common expectation of the international community. In addition, Foreign Minister made a statement that “We are open to dialogue at all levels with the United States”.
Likewise, it was also underlined that China welcomes American businesses. It will welcome strategic and academic professionals to China for more face-to-face exchanges. This will help in enhancing mutual understanding between the two countries.

On the other hand, Thornton responded while saying that the US and China ought to be strategic partners that can cooperate. In addition, he also made clear that he will continue to play his role in promoting trade as well as economic exchanges between both countries.
However, these efforts will serve as a contributing factor towards enhancing Americans’ overall understanding of China along with promoting a stable growth of strong relations between the US and China.
