China, Brazil Can Set Example of Unity, Self-Reliance in Global South: Xi

Beijing (TDI): Chinese President Xi Jinping expressed on Tuesday that China is eager to work closely with Brazil to showcase unity and self-reliance among major nations in the Global South, aiming to jointly build a fairer world and a more sustainable future for the planet.

Xi made these remarks during a phone conversation with Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.

He highlighted that ties between China and Brazil are at their strongest point in history. The construction of a China-Brazil community with a shared future and the alignment of their development strategies are progressing well, he noted.

The Chinese leader reaffirmed China’s readiness to seize emerging opportunities with Brazil, strengthen coordination, and achieve more mutually beneficial cooperation.

Xi also voiced China’s support for Brazil in defending its national sovereignty and safeguarding its legitimate rights and interests, calling on all nations to unite firmly against unilateralism and protectionism.

Referring to the BRICS platform as crucial for fostering consensus in the Global South, Xi congratulated Brazil for successfully hosting the recent BRICS Summit.

He urged countries in the Global South to work together to uphold international fairness and justice, defend core principles of international relations, and protect the legitimate rights of developing nations.

China and Brazil should also continue collaborating on global challenges, ensure the success of the upcoming UN Climate Change Conference in Belem, Brazil, and promote the “Friends of Peace” initiative aimed at facilitating a political resolution to the Ukraine crisis, Xi added.

In response, President Lula emphasized Brazil’s strong commitment to its relationship with China and expressed eagerness to deepen cooperation, enhance strategic alignment, and further develop bilateral ties.

Lula updated Xi on Brazil’s recent interactions with the United States and reaffirmed Brazil’s firm stance on protecting its sovereignty.

He praised China’s dedication to multilateralism, free trade, and its responsible role on the international stage.

The Brazilian president also stated Brazil’s readiness to strengthen dialogue and coordination with China within multilateral forums like BRICS, oppose unilateral coercion, and safeguard shared global interests.
