Beijing, (TDI): China is playing a critical role in the global transition to sustainable energy by offering high-quality, affordable new-energy solutions to international markets and ramping up its own green energy initiatives.
This observation came from analysts and industry experts on Monday, a day after the fourth anniversary of China’s announcement of its ambitious “dual carbon” goals.
According to data released by the National Energy Administration on Monday, China’s total installed power generation capacity grew by 14 percent year-on-year during the first eight months of 2024.
Solar power capacity surged by an impressive 48.8 percent, reaching 750 million kilowatts, while wind power capacity expanded by 19.9 percent compared to the same period last year.
This progress is aligned with China’s pledge to peak carbon emissions by 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2060, a commitment made four years ago.

To assess the nation’s strides toward these goals, Xiamen University’s Carbon Neutrality Development Index research team, in collaboration with Jiangnan University’s National Security and Green Development Institute, recently released the China Carbon Neutrality Development Index (2024).
The report highlighted that provinces and regions across China are making significant progress in expanding carbon-neutral initiatives, with notable improvements in both efficiency and quality.

Sun Chuanwang, a professor at Xiamen University who leads the research, emphasized that the country’s efforts this year have been focused on strengthening progress toward achieving the dual carbon targets.
He pointed to specific action plans rolled out for developing a new electricity system, constructing green data centers, facilitating the low-carbon transition of traditional industries, and phasing out fossil fuels.
These targeted measures, implemented as part of the 2021-2025 plan, are accelerating the green transition by replacing outdated industrial capacities with more sustainable options.
China Driving Force in Global Green Development
China’s influence extends beyond its domestic efforts, as the nation has become a driving force in global green development.
According to industry insiders, China’s industrial transformation is fostering a worldwide shift toward greener production.
Through its dual focus on domestic progress and international collaboration, China is emerging as a key player in driving the global transition toward a sustainable future.
