Nyingchi, 7 October 2023 (TDI): The Foreign Minister of Afghanistan, Maulvi Amir Khan Muttaqi met with the Foreign Minister of China, Wang Yi in Nyingchi at the sideline of the 3rd meeting of the Trans-Himalayan Forum to discuss relations between China and Afghanistan on October 6.

During the meeting both sides discussed bilateral relations, raising the level of diplomatic relations, new trade corridors, and many regional issues.

Besides that, both Foreign Ministers called the joint meetings of the Afghanistan-China-Pakistan Foreign Ministers and expressed hope that such meetings would continue in the future too.

The Foreign Minister of Afghanistan described the official appointment of the Ambassador by China to Afghanistan, Zhao Xing as a good development in the bilateral relations between the two countries.

The Foreign Minister of China on his part highlighted that China’s diplomatic relations with Afghanistan are not influenced by any other country and China will continue its traditional friendship with Afghanistan.

The Foreign Minister of China also expressed his readiness to cooperate with the Afghan government to improve its governance and capacity.

Attending the 3rd Trans-Himalayan Forum

The Afghan Foreign Minister, Maulvi Amir Khan Muttaqi embarked on his visit to China on September 3, to participate in the Third meeting of the Trans-Himalayan Forum that was held in Nyingchi from October 4-5.

The Forum aimed on discussing economic cooperation, regional connectivity, and ecological changes between the countries around the Himalayan mountains.

The Foreign Minister of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA), Muttaqi along with his delegation was officially invited by Beijing to attend the Third Trans-Himalayan Forum.

Before attending the Trans Himalayan Forum, Foreign Minister Muttaqi visited the Sichuan Energy Investment Development Company of China, one of the largest electric power supply companies located in Chengdu, in the Sichuan Province.

The Foreign Minister of Afghanistan, Maulvi Amir Khan Muttaqi, along with the Afghan delegation also met with the caretaker Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Jalil Abbas Jilani, on October 5, to negotiate over the deportation of Afghan immigrants from Pakistan.
