Nyingchi, 4 October 2023 (TDI): The Afghan Foreign Minister, Maulvi Amir Khan Muttaqi embarked on his visit to China on September 3, to participate in the Third meeting of the Trans-Himalayan Forum that is to be held in Nyingchi, China from October 4-5.

The Third meeting of the Trans-Himalayan Forum is related to the Shizhang Province of China.

In the Forum, discussions are to be held on economic cooperation, regional connectivity, and ecological changes between the countries around the Himalayan mountains.

The Foreign Minister of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA), Muttaqi along with his delegation was officially invited by Beijing to attend the Third Trans-Himalayan Forum.

The Afghan delegation includes Dr. Abdul atif Nazari, appointed by the Ministry of Economy, and several other officials.

The Foreign Minister Muttaqi and his delegation will also have bilateral meetings with the Foreign Minister of China and representatives of other countries.

Visit to Sichuan Energy Investment Development Company

Before attending the Trans Himalayan Forum, Foreign Minister Muttaqi visited the Sichuan Energy Investment Development Company of China, one of the largest electric power supply companies located in Chengdu, in the Sichuan Province.

Foreign Minister Muttaqi met with the officials of that company and discussed the development of electrical energy cooperation between Afghanistan and China.

While encouraging the officials of the company to share their experiences in the electricity sector with Afghanistan, he emphasized that Afghanistan also has a large capacity for hydroelectric energy.

He also emphasized on the suitable investment environment for foreign companies and investors in Afghanistan.

China is among the few countries, including Pakistan, Iran, and Russia, which have maintained their diplomatic presence in the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) after the new government takeover in August 2021.

In this regard, China last month sent Zhao Xing as its new Ambassador to IEA and became the first nation to send a permanent ambassador to IEA.
