Islamabad (TDI): The World Bank (WB) has expressed satisfaction with the implementation progress of the “Higher Education Development in Pakistan project” worth $400 million.
The project was approved in May 2019. The core objectives of the program are to support research excellence in strategic sectors of the economy, improve teaching and learning, and strengthen governance, in the higher education sector.

The WB has already disbursed 78.5 per cent of the amount, $329.93 million out of $400 million. The rest of the amount will be issued before the closing date, which is June 30, 2025.
Year 2 saw significant progress with thirty-one research grants reaching 80% of their targets. The Higher Education Commission (HEC) and NAHE conducted a needs assessment in Sindh and Punjab. They covered 52 public universities.

Twelve more Affiliating Universities (AUs) now have functional Quality Enhancement Cells (QECACs). NAHE regional centers hosted three outreach events. The Open Distance Learning Policy was also approved.
