Wang Yi co-chairs 13th steering committee in Vietnam

Hanoi, 11 September 2021 (TDI): Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi during his visit to Vietnam co-chaired the 13th meeting of the Steering committee for Vietnam-China Bilateral Cooperation with Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh.

At the event, the two officials acknowledged positive relationships between the two countries for the last year. Issues related to irregular trade, tariffs, import-export through the Vietnam border, and delay of various assistance and economic development projects were discussed.

Deputy Prime Minister Vietnam suggested common prosperity entailing a win-win situation for both states. Covid-19 resilience strategies were also under consideration. Wang Yi announced a donation of 3 million more vaccines to Vietnam to which the Deputy Prime Minister acknowledged and praised China’s role in helping battle the pandemic.

Cooperation in sectors of science and technology was discussed too in order to help promote the reach of Vietnamese enterprises to the rest of the world and integrate them into the Chinese markets. Joint sea drills and promotion of peace in the South-China sea were agreed upon by the two states along with the signing of an economic cooperation agreement.
