Video meeting between Presidents of China and Russia


Moscow/Beijing – 28 June 2021 (TDI) :Russian President Vladimir Putin had a video meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Monday to congratulate him on the 100th anniversary of the CPC and the 20th anniversary of the signing of the Russia-China Treaty on Good-Neighborliness and Friendly Cooperation.    

China and Russia agreed to extend the Treaty of Good-Neighborliness and Friendly Cooperation and to enhance their bilateral ties for their own interests as well as that of the international community.

The two sides emphasized safeguarding the international system with the United Nations and maintaining order under international law. The leaders emphasized maintaining global strategic security and stability, support and practice multilateralism in its true sense. They expressed their opposition to the interference in the internal affairs of other countries under the guise of democracy and human rights, referring to the Western criticism of China and unipartite coercive sanctions.
They also stressed their opposition to the stigmatization and politicization of the COVID-19 pandemic.  
With regards to promoting cooperation, the leaders agreed to boost cooperation on vaccines, widen their bilateral trade, and amplify their cooperation in the fields of low-carbon energy, digital economy, and agriculture. They also spoke of the promotion of alignment of the Belt and Road Initiative with the Eurasian Economic Union.
They expressed disagreement with politicizing sports and games and Putin announced support for the successful holding of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics.
Putin and Jinping shared their concern over the recent situation of abrupt withdrawal of U.S. and NATO troops from Afghanistan and the complex security situation there.  
They believe that there is a need to jointly maintain regional peace, security, and stability.
