China and Russia to extend the Treaty of Good-Neighborliness and Friendly Cooperation


Beijing/Moscow: 28 June 2021 (TDI) : Chinese President Xi Jinping had a video meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday on the 20th anniversary of the signing of the Russia-China Treaty on Good-Neighborliness and Friendly Cooperation and agreed to extend the treaty.
The presidents of the two countries issued a joint statement in which they officially announced the extension of the treaty.
The Chinese president commented that as the world enters a period of chaotic changes and as human development faces various crises, the close cooperation between China and Russia has injected positive energy in the international community and set an example of a new type of international relations.
He added that the concept of a long-term friendship between China and Russia laid out in the treaty complies with the primary interests of the two countries, fits the theme of the times of peace and development, and is a clear practice of building a new type of international relations and a community with a shared future for mankind.
Jinping said under the guidance of the spirit of the treaty, China and Russia will keep concentrating on their efforts and moving forward with determination, no matter how many hurdles are in the way. And acknowledged the deep friendship and stable bilateral relations between the countries.
The Russian president said that his country is willing to strengthen exchanges with CPC and wishes that under the leadership of the party, China will make new economic and social achievements and play a more important role in international affairs.
Sharing his views on the role of the treaty in strengthening the China-Russian ties, Putin commented that Russia is satisfied with the current unmatched high level of Russia-China relations and the overall steady development of cooperation between the two countries.
