New York, 23 September 2021 (TDI): European Union High Representative/Vice-President Josep Borrell met with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York on 22nd September.
Following the announcement of AUKUS, Vice President Borell remarked that he and Secretary Blinken had a productive discussion yesterday. The conference provided a chance to address topics relevant to the transatlantic agenda as well as current world issues.

Both reiterated the United States and the EU’s solid alliance. They agreed to strengthen their participation in tackling global problems, particularly Indo-Pacific stability. They emphasized the importance of EU defense initiatives, which will also help NATO’s development. The High Representative emphasized the importance of launching an extensive organized debate on security and defense.
VP Borell and Sec. Blinken decided to continue their discussions in the coming weeks. In solving global issues, the EU and the US are unrivalled partners. Their strong partnership, founded on common principles, will help to maintain world peace and security.
