Amman, 19 November 2021 (TDI): On Wednesday, Jordan was re-elected as an executive board member of the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). It was announced during the Orgazniation’s 41st General Conference in Paris, that the country has been re-elected to UNESCO for the 2021-2025 term.

While giving his remarks on the significant proceeding, Jordan’s Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi expressed gratitude to the state’s allies for supporting Amman’s application for another term at UNESCO.

He affirmed that Jordan will continue advancing the organization’s aims and developing bridges for collaboration. He also commended his colleagues’ efforts towards making the re-election possible.

In addition, Jordan’s envoy to France and the state’s permanent delegate to UNESCO, Makram Mustafa Queisi, also expressed great pleasure over the decision.

He stated that Amman’s continued membership in the UNESCO indicates the respect Jordanian Kingdom has for the organization.

He further remarked that Jordan will continue supporting UNESCO’s decisions aimed at preserving the history of Jerusalem.

Jordan’s re-election will help the state gain required support from UNESCO and its member countries. A number of Jordanian archaeological and heritage sites will also be added to the ‘World Heritage list.’

The country’s re-election as UNESCO executive board member follows its success in enrolling the historic city center of Salt on the World Heritage list. This eventually made it the sixth Jordanian site to be added to the list.

The Kingdom’s UNESCO membership also paves the way to increase the organization’s programs in Jordan, particularly encompassing literacy, scientific research, teacher training, and vocational education.
