Islamabad, 19 February 2022 (TDI): Pakistan and the United States in the year 2022 are celebrating 75 years of bilateral ties. In Pakistan, to celebrate the anniversary, the United States Educational Foundation in Pakistan (USEFP) held a groundbreaking ceremony.

The new headquarter is a gift from the Pakistan government to the organization. A symbol, to foster cultural and educational relationships of the two states through the USEFP.

Many US officials of the diplomatic delegation and Pakistan officials were present at the ceremony. For instance, the U.S charge d’affairs Angella Angeler was present.In addition members of the USEFP participated also, such as the Executive Director Rita Akhtar of USEFP. The event took place on February 16.

 

What is the USEFP?

The USEFP is a joint commission composed of Pakistanis and Americans. The Chair is taken alternatively by the two sides. USEFP is part of the Fulbright commissions located worldwide.

The organization is at the head of different programs that send Pakistani students and scholars to American campuses and vice versa. Helping Pakistanis people know about the Americans and the Americans about the Pakistanis is the goal of the USEFP.

Indeed, the organization is a tool to foster the relationship between the two sides. For instance, cultural and educational exchanges are the core of the program. Especially, more than 8,000 Pakistanis and 935 Americans have participated in the program.

Pakistan and United States relationship

The U.S and Pakistan have a long and cordial diplomatic relationship. The diplomatic relationship between the two states goes back to 1947. The year 1947 was the time when Pakistan became independent. Moreover, the relationship between the two states has a large range of activities.

For instance, they cooperate to enhance democracy, peace, security, health, and economic development in Pakistan and the region.

The United States and Pakistan have their embassies in their respective countries. For instance, the U.S has its embassy in Islamabad and consulates in different cities of Pakistan. Pakistan has its embassy in Washington DC and consulates in various cities of the U.S as well.

Both states are partners in the international sphere as well. The US and Pakistan are working in a multilateral way through common international organizations. For instance, the United Nations (UN), the International Monetary Fund(IMF), the World Bank, and more.

Last but not least, the two sides recognize the crucial need for their collaboration, hence their relationship will last longer.
