US Supports China’s Role in Afghan Peace Process

-

Washington, 5 August 2021 (TDI): The spokesman for the United States Department of State, Ned Price, regarding peace in Afghanistan said that the United States (US) supports the diplomatic efforts led by China which would result in a long-lasting solution.

The United States first deployed its troops in Afghanistan on 7, October 2001 under the Bush Administration. The current US President Joe Biden announced the complete withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan by 31, August.

Now, Washington, Beijing, and the international community are on the same page about their mutual interest in Kabul. China is actively engaging in the peace process in Afghanistan to become a mediator between the Taliban and the Government of Afghanistan. The efforts of China can play a significant role in ending the stalemate of negotiations between the Afghan Government and the Taliban.

A solution to the Afghanistan conflict will bring prosperity in the region and especially in the neighboring countries of Afghanistan. Former Afghan ambassador to China, Sultan Baheen, affirmed that China is a reliable and entrusted ally that can perform better than any other country as an arbitrator in promoting peace in Afghanistan.
