Doha, 7 September 2021 (TDI): Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani received US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin III and State Secretary Antony Blinken on Monday as they arrived in Doha to thank Qatar for assisting the United States with Kabul evacuations.
Blinken expressed the USA’s gratitude towards Qatar for remarkably supporting evacuation efforts in Afghanistan and making the safe transit of several U.S. citizens and other evacuees possible from Kabul. The Emir of Qatar and US officials also discussed recent developments in Afghanistan on top of the measures required to improve security conditions in the country.
Following the mayhem in Kabul, Washington sought the support of its Gulf partners to safely transit American citizens and vulnerable Afghans from Kabul and to build a consensus among its allies on how to respond to the Taliban takeover.
