Islamabad, 25 November 2022 (TDI): US Mission to Pakistan congratulated the new Chief of Army Staff and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, on their appointments.
The appointments designate Lieutenant (Lt) General Asim Munir as Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and Lieutenant (Lt) General Sahir Shamshad Mirza as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC).
Moreover, the US Mission reaffirmed its commitment to work with the political and military leadership of Pakistan.
They also reinstated their commitment to work with civil society and public sector partners to enhance mutual interests in the fields of climate change, trade and investment, education, and health.
The US has always shown interest and commitment to working with the leadership of Pakistan for preserving regional security. Particularly, the military relations between both states have been present since their diplomatic relations in 1947.
Appointment of New Army Chief
The process of appointment of a new Army Chief and Joint Chief of Staff Committee (CJCSC) had begun at the start of the week. The requirements for the new designations have been fulfilled as per the constitutional requirements.

Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shahbaz Sharif on Thursday, 24 November sent a summary to President Arif Alvi for the appointment of the new Army Chief & CJCSC. Prime Minister named Lieutenant General Asim Munir for the designation of Army Chief of Pakistan.
The incumbent Army Chief, General Qamar Javed Bajwa will retire on 29 November, according to the notification issued by the Ministry of Defense. Moreover, the incumbent CJCSC, General Nadeem Raza will retire on 27 November.
The federal government through a notification by the Ministry of Defense on Friday morning appointed the generals for their new roles. The COAS and CJCSC are appointed for a tenure of three years as per the constitution.
