Interior Minister Tarar Arrives in Baku to Represent Pakistan at D-8 Forum

Baku (TDI): Pakistan’s Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Attaullah Tarar, has arrived in Baku to take part in the D-8 Media Forum, starting Friday.

He was welcomed at Heydar Aliyev International Airport by Ahmad Ismayilov, the Executive Director of Azerbaijan’s Media Development Agency. The minister is attending the Forum at the invitation of Azerbaijan’s government.

Being held under the theme “Promoting dialogue, cooperation, and regional solidarity,” the Forum has gather media experts, policymakers, and communication specialists from all D-8 member countries – Pakistan, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, and Turkiye. While the name D8 persists, the grouping now has nine members since Azerbaijan joined just this year.

The Forum is set to feature two panel discussions, one on “Responsible journalism and digital innovations” and the other on “Strategic communication and crisis management,” along with a workshop on “Media ethics in the digital world, technologies, trends, and narratives.”

Nearly 150 participants are expected to attend the Forum, including 71 delegates from the member countries and the D-8 Secretariat. The purpose of the Forum is to strengthen unity among member nations, encourage the exchange of professional expertise, and open new avenues for collaboration in the media and information sectors.

At the gathering, the information minister will outline Pakistan’s perspective, highlighting the need for deeper media partnerships among member countries, supporting accurate and responsible journalism to counter misinformation, and working together on approaches suited for an increasingly digital media landscape.

During his visit, he will also hold high-level discussions with the D-8 Secretary General, Information ministers from various member countries, and global media executives.

Minister Tarar is also scheduled to meet Hikmat Hajiyev, Head of Foreign Policy Affairs of Azerbaijan, and will visit Azerbaijan’s state television headquarters.
