According to the Government of Pakistan’s statistics, 1,280,092 coronavirus cases have been registered in Pakistan to date. In addition, a total of more than 119 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines have been administered to the public so far.
It is an important factor to take into consideration while examining the spread of Covid-19, where immunization serves as one of the biggest tools to diminish the further spread of the virus.
The US donation of Pfizer vaccines comes under the project of COVAX, which is a global initiative to provide Covid-19 vaccines across the world and expedite the immunization process, particularly to the middle and lower-income countries.
The World Health Organization (WHO) and Gavi (the Vaccine Alliance) are also assisting US with the donation process.
Earlier on September 21, 2021, US President Joe Biden exhibited a commitment towards doubling the Pfizer vaccine purchase to share with the rest of the world. He made the announcement while addressing 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
Biden also committed to vaccinating 70% of the world population by 2022. Today, Washington serves as the largest global contributor in donating Covid-19 vaccines, and Pakistan is among many other countries that are benefiting from the maneuver.
