Lahore, 22 December 2021 (TDI): The United States of America’s (USA) Consul General, William Makaneole attended an event at the Governor House Lahore today. The event involved important personalities such as Mohammad Sarwar the Governor of Punjab.

The event was organized by the National Commission on the Status of Women organization (NCSW). Nilofar Bakhtiar, the chairperson for the NCSW also attended the session. United States of America’s Department of International Development (USAID) sponsored the event.

The goal of the event was to support and empower the women of Pakistan. The US Consul General William condemned the violence against women and girls not just in Pakistan but around the world as well.

As women contribute equally to society, therefore they don’t deserve to be discriminated against or made a victim of violence. Hence, empowering women all around the world is important as it helps a society grow.

USA and Women Rights in Pakistan

The United States of America’s Embassy has been empowering women in Pakistan, through different programs and opportunities. The USA has provided aid to the government of Pakistan to establish Women Barracks that would help in recruiting more women in the Security Services of Pakistan.

The inclusion of women in every sector is really important as it helps them deliver equal rights and protects them from the male dominating society. Moreover, the USA created a Virtual Exhibition in honour to support and encourage the efforts made by the women of Pakistan.

The United States of America has even nominated Amna Baig for the prestigious ‘International Women of Courage Award’. She is the first woman from Pakistan to be ever nominated for this award. Such gestures honor women for their strength and inspire others to do the same.

However, all this is possible only when all of the society unites in the fight against stopping violence against different genders and providing them with equal rights.

The Consul General of the USA extended support to women and girls. He appreciated the organizers of the event and their aspiration for empowering the women of Pakistan.
