Ottawa, 14 January 2022 (TDI): Yesterday, the Foreign Minister of Pakistan Shah Mahmood Qureshi received a telephonic call from the newly elected Foreign Minister of Canada.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi congratulated Melanie Joly on her win. Both the officials praised the strong partnership between Canada and Pakistan. Both expressed their views on regional and bilateral issues.

The Pakistani Foreign Minister appreciated the Pakistani Canadian Community and expressed gratitude over the efforts the community is making to contribute to the Canadian economy.

Moreover, the two countries have seen an increase in trade. Fortunately, the revenue generated this year was greater than the last years thus, marking the strong growing relations between the two nations. Shah Mahmood encouraged to further enhance the Financial, trade and investment relations between the two countries.

Peace in Afghanistan

The officials also discussed the deteriorating situation in Afghanistan and the necessity of protecting the human lives there. Both countries aspire to bring peace and promote stability in Afghanistan.

The Canadian Minister appreciated the unanimous resolution adopted by the international countries at the OIC Summitt held in Pakistan last month. There is a dire need to provide humanitarian assistance to the Afghan Community. The current rising environmental problems are increasing the risk of human life is at stake. Both the countries aspire to make serious efforts to protect human lives in Afghanistan.

Furthermore, Melanie Joly appreciated Pakistans in-kind donation of almost 30 million dollars as humanitarian assistance along with food and medical care. Whereas, Pakistan praise Canada for donating 56 million Canadian dollars for assisting the Afghani Community.

The two discussed the importance of cooperation in maintaining strong international relations. They condemned the use of violence and confrontation. Both expressed their views on strengthening the relations through peace and collaboration.

Both officials ended the convo on strengthening the bilateral trade, political and economic relations between the two states.
