New York, 23 September 2021 (TDI): Abdulla Shahid, an elected President of the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly, met with Officials of various Countries. These meetings took place on the sideline of the 76th session of UNGA in New York.
President met with the Foreign Minister of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Faisal Bin Farhan Al-Saud. The Foreign Minister of the State of Palestine, Riyad Al-Maliki discussed Palestinian priorities. He mentioned that sustainable development and recovery from COVID-19 is the main priority.
President of Suriname, Chandrikapersad Santokhi discussed the agenda of climate change with Abdulla Shahid. This agenda aligned closely with Maldives agenda for the UNGA76 session.
President met Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director Of UNAIDS, Winnie Byanyime. They discussed cooperation with General Assembly. Both leaders agreed that cooperation between all entities of the UN is essential for the success of the General Assembly.
Mauritanian Foreign Minister, Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed discussed key issues of climate change and terrorism with Abdulla Shahid.
The Secretary-General of the Council Of Europe, Marija Pejcinovic Buric discussed youth involvement, gender equality, and human rights. She assured the European Council’s support to President.
The President also met with the President of Botswana, Mokgweetsi Maisi. Also, with the President of Portugal, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa. They focused on regional cooperation and the preparation for the UN Ocean conference in Lisbon. Abdullah Shahid assured him of his presence at the conference.
The President met with the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed AbolGheit.
The Foreign Minister of Georgia, David Zalkaliani, and Secretary-General of de La Francophonie, Louise Mushikiwabo look forward to the implementation of joint priorities.
The foreign Minister of Malta, Evarist Bartolo, and President of Burundi, Evariste Ndayishimiye assured Abdulla Shahid of their support. President of the Dominican Republic, Luis Abinader discuss multilateralism and gender equality.
Abdulla Shahid also met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Of Somalia, Mohamed Abdirizak Mohamud. They discuss the regional prospects for Somalia.
The US Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken also had a meeting with Abdulla Shahid. He assured the President of vaccines equality. Abdullah Shahid expressed gratitude for his support. He mentioned that we all need to work together in unity for the people, planet and prosperity.
