New York, 23 September 2021(TDI): President Evariste Ndayishimiye of Burundi met with President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan at the Turkish House in the United Nations Plaza, in New York. The meeting was held at the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, on Wednesday.
Presidents of both countries exchanged views on Turkey’s and Burundi’s bilateral relations. The discussions centered on improving trade, education, health, and the mining industry. Recep Tayyip Erdogan praised Burundi’s contributions to the UN and African Union peacekeeping missions. Turkish President committed to pay a visit to Burundi and also invite Evariste Ndayishimiye, President of Burundi to the 3rd Turkey-Africa Trade Forum.
Burundi and Turkey have had diplomatic connections for quite some time. Burundi’s Embassy in Ankara opened in June 2014 while Turkey opened an embassy in Burundi in 2018. Serap Ataay, the Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to Burundi, represents her country in Burundi.
