UAE promises to host 5,000 Afghans

Abu Dhabi, 21 August 2021 (TDI): On Friday UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation made public the state’s agreement to host 5,000 Afghan evacuees before they leave for third countries.

UAE has made this agreement at the request of the United States of America. The Afghan evacuees would depart from Kabul on American planes thereafter UAE will host them temporarily.

The Ministry recalled other humanitarian efforts of UAE such as providing its airports and flights for evacuating 8,500 foreign nationals from Afghanistan including many diplomats and NGO workers to the country’s airports.

Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for International Development Affairs, Sultan Mohammed Al Shamsi iterated that this step is to confirm UAE’s commitment to strengthen international cooperation during pressing times.

Al-Shamsi further affirmed that UAE has always been devoted to seeking “peaceful and multilateral solutions” and is committed to cooperating with the international community for helping the Afghan people.
